Hi,

I’m just wondering if there is a way to divide a polygon triangle face into more triangles of exactly the same proportion via a script or such.

I can model the form quite easily but it takes time and isn’t appropriate if I wanted to create a large curved surface that is made up of this kind of tessellation.

Is there a plug-in to ‘add division’ in this manner? Or do I need a script?  I have never scripted in Maya…

Thanks :)

Also, in addition to this, is there a way to rotate objects along a different axis (different from local and world) ie.. to use reference points or to change the axis of rotation from local/world.

As you can see from the attached image, I’ve managed to rotate the triangular panels manually, however they’re not totally accurate.

That is why, if there is a way to create a curved surface, and apply a script/plug-in to add divisions that result in similar (equilateral) triangle tessellation to the image above, that would be ideal.

I understand that for any such curved surface, it would near impossible/improbable for such a script/plug-in to create all equilateral triangles but there must be a way to force it to make as many triangles of the same size?

Each of those panels in the attached image looks like the above image, any ideas?

Would be so grateful if anyone can help!! thanks
