| Vertex selection tool selects too many verts |

I just installed Maya ‘10 and I have problem with selecting vertex. When I select one vertex point to drag or extrude, the point doesn’t change into blue, but changes into yellow/red and drags a few points together. How to set up that when i click on one point and the point changes into blue??? anyone had same trouble?
