How do I export in .obj format from Maya 2012?
|
|
|

Hey,
make sure you have the plug in enabled that is built in. To check go to:
Window -> settings/pref -> plug in manager (down on the bottom), check load and auto load to the objExport.mll
then you can go to export your selection or scene and choose the obj file type
Hope that helped! :)

i still seem to be having issues with this as well . back in 2009/2010 ,once you have set up obj export , it was the default name in the export dialog box. Now in 2011/2012 even when i have set it up the default is ascii. and everytime i want to export a obj i have to use the scroll down pop up window to find obj. Once a day isnt a problem , but i use this command 20-30 a day and its starting to become VERY annoying..

Hi tyrellcorp,
Try adding this to a shelf or a shortcut for Export Selection
ExportSelectionOptions; setCurrentFileTypeOption "ExportActive" "" "OBJexport";
And this for ExportAll
ExportOptions; setCurrentFileTypeOption "ExportAll" "" "OBJexport";
Hope this works for you.

How about FBX?

Sure CyborgQueen,
In the commands above just replace OBJexport with FBX export and they should work fine for FBX.

I’ve got the student version of 2013. Where do I find an .obj export in that. (Or, for that matter a plugin manager. There is nothing labeled plugin manager in the preferences/settings. At all.)
Do I have to go find a plug in and install it? Where, and who makes one?
