hi, unfortunately i can’t find the topic i’d posted earlier. i’ve attached some footage of my problem if anyone could please provide feedback.
basically i’m just starting out and trying to bend a cylinder by bending a joint inside it.
I place the joint inside the cylinder, press enter, select all, bind skin, press 5 and when i try to bend by moving the joint, the joint comes through the cylinder and the cylinder doesn’t move. any feedback wld be great

could be a couple of things your missing.

1. Make sure you have subdivisions around the cylinder (by changing the subdivision height) so it can bend.

2. Are you selecting the joints and then the cylinder? (it needs to know what mesh your skinning to what joints)

3. If those dont help it possible to upload a pic? (To get a clearer idea of what’s going on.)

hi,

first of all i would not use select all. that maybe work in an empty scene but not if you have more than one object and/or joint chain.

also select all selects only the root joint. you can see this in the outliner. in your video you can see that if you select the upper joint your cylinder turns from purple to blue (your standard wireferame color!) which means that this joint has no connection to the mesh. it was not bind i guess because your smooth bind options bind is set to selected and not to joint hierarchy. so you can go to the outliner or the viewport and select every single joint or like you did but with joint hierarchy selected in your smooth bind options!
