Hi,

I have a worm that I put joints and painted all weights properly.
The problem is I want to duplicate this worm as many as I want, and I will animate differently with same geometries and joints set-up.
When I tried to duplicate geometry and joints, and bind, of course the new weight was come.
I want to know if there is a way to save my time from painting weight over again for the same things.

Thank you so much.

I would suggest looking into file referencing.
This is a great way to work in a lot of ways.
It will keep your scene size down and also make it really easy to make changes across the many number of worms.
But, you can also make changes on an individual basis if you want as well.
To set it up, save a file with only the fully rigged worm that you want to duplicate.

Then, in the scene that you will be working go to FILE - CREATE REFERENCE (option box)
Usually the default settings are fine, but I like to change the “Name Clash Options” from “the file name” to “this string” and type in something simple and clear, because scene names can tend to get long and complicated.
Click REFERENCE and select the file with the worm in it.

This will bring in one worm.
Then go to FILE - REFERNECE EDITOR.
This will open a window which will give you all of the options you need to take full advantage of your file references.
To get more than one worm, select the worm in the Reference Editor and go to REFERENCE - DUPLICATE REFERENCE.
Repeat as many times as you need.

There are a whole bunch of great things you can do with the Refernce Editor...so I recommend reading through the help documents on it.

*There are rumours passed around that bad things happen with file referenceing...but those kinks have been worked out in my experience. I have taken many projects from start to finish without a problem.
just avoid referencing a file with references in it...and if you do run into any problems just import your files from the references (find this option in the reference editor) and this should get you through any bumps in the road.

Good luck
~Ben

Hey Ben,

Thanks so much for your guide. This will be helpful for not only my worm, but also future works.
I never tried to (even found) this method, and I appreciate you to share this information.
Thank you!!
