I’m trying to rig a rifle strap that will connect to both ends of the rifle, which will be slung over a character’s shoulder. Obviously I would like the strap to interact and deform with the character as he moves. Also, he’ll be taking it off and putting it back on.
My rigging experience extends only as far as biped characters, so I’m struggling to find a way here. So far, I’ve used the IK Spline handle tool down the strap geometry and have created clusters within, and have heard things about converting them to maya hair?. I don’t know which direction to take next.
My main queries lie within:
-Connecting both ends of the strap to either side of the rifle geometry.
-Making the strap move/deform as the character moves.
-Allowing the character to put it on and take it off.
Thanks.

I’d be inclined to just use a ribbon setup, just because of the amount of interactivity you want from it, and the flexability of the rig.
Dynamics (hair and nCloth etc) couldve worked if it was just required to collide with the character, but when you want them to interact with it, the whole process gets far more complicated (Its very possible, but you would require a fairly decent understanding of it)

First I’ve heard of a ribbon setup. Could you direct to a page where I can get more info about it?
I’ve been experimenting with other deformers like wire and wrap but haven’t properly tried them with what I want to do yet.
Thanks.
