Rigid body, sort of?

so rigid bodies make it so one item intersects with another (I’m no expert, just trying to get the idea down)
so is there a way to do something similar with 2 characters? example: I want characterA to poke characterB’s belly. the belly needs to be squashed inwards (controlled by the finger). but I don’t want to make a blend shape and try to figure out the exact deformation. is there a way to set it so that the finger or characterA deforms characterB?
