The whole scene has to be able to fit into the memory banks of a processor to be able to be rendered. The GPU’s cannot render the scene if it’s only in the system RAM. It has to be small enough to fit within the GPU’s RAM (And this is not combined GPU RAM, since it is not unified memory). So whatever memory your single GPU has is the max memory your scene can take up to be rendered with the GPU in iRay, or else it will default to CPU rendering, which is still pretty quick, especially with a system like yours.
