This idea just suddenly disturbed me.

I saw 3DSMax 2010 sneak peek and they applied Ribbon interface to it.
I’d say no to Ribbon Interface on Maya 2010. Just imagine, Ribbon on Maya ... How on earth?
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me but I really don’t like the Ribbon Interface, specially for maya. What about you? What do you think?

I found my destiny... Serious.

it is getting totally messed up and software is loosing its simplicity . this will happen for maya too . maybe an `autodesk modeler` will do fine for us . not a ribboned CAD like but a new one from scratch so we can pay acceptable prices not thousands of dollars

Isn’t that what the shelf is? But uglier? :-P

But seriously, I love the loop selection tools they have:

Definitely need those in Maya 2010!

The shelves are different ... They dont take 80 pixels of screen space leaving a lot of room for other items.

The ribbons - well, it takes time to get used to any new interface so I hope that Maya 11 or later won’t include the ribbon interface.

Th Ribbon Interface made Office 2007 into what it is; before it was just as Maya is now: complex, cluttered menus, which makes learning it a long process…
And while its obvious that many people want to keep everything “the way they are used to” and will object to any changes; Autodesk should have to courage to so something about a software thats falling behind - just look at Houdini and XSI…

Regards,
Stephen

I just want Menus, Shelves and a few other things retained. Everything else can go to the Ribbons.

I really don’t hope they do the ribbon overhaul on maya just keep development separate from each other so people still have a choice between both packages.

Don’t think I would like a ribbon… Sure, it works nice for Word, but that doesn’t mean it’ll work for Maya… Autocad 2009 already has a ribbon, and I’m not really sure. It’s ok, I guess (don’t use it much), but Autocad is different from Maya.

Personally, I don’t see why Maya’s interface is bad now, I think it’s good enough (Sure, it’s not gorgeous, but who could possibly care?). What does the look matter, as long as it’s not butt-ugly? Why would we want to have a fancy, sleek looking interface? I don’t understand how this could be so important. As long as it works, which I think it does now, it doesn’t need much more. And in my opinion, it’s not a very complicated interface… I don’t recall having trouble with it while learning Maya. (I found Blender more difficult to learn (nevertheless, it’s a great open source program)) I don’t really care how Maya’s interface looks, I want my render to look good. And I want new possibilities in new releases of Maya.

Honestly, though, I think they’ll at least try very hard to fit Maya into a ribbon. Autocad uses a ribbon, and I think AutoDesk would like all of their applications to use it. Simply because… Because of what? I’m not sure. So even though I really prefer Maya, I’m starting to look into other programs that I could use, and are not owned by AutoDesk, in case they screw it up too much in the future, which I hope they won’t…

I probably don’t know…

Maya is exactely the kind of program for which the ribbon makes perfect sense because it has so many features...Anyway I think once its there people will come to like it…
(and you’re right about Blender, the interface is a complete mess)
Yet I’m sure that trying out new things with the UI will eventually lead to improved workflow; if you never get started you’ll never make progress;-)
But at the end of the day, its a matter of personal preference I guess

Best idea, keep both the interfaces but load only the one selected in the prefs. Do not even bother to load the other into the memory.
