I have only one wish… support for Maya on 64 bit Mac OS X Snow Leopard!  Mac OS X is the most advanced operating system out there today.  Please take a hint from all the others (Blender, Houdini) and re-code Maya so that it will actually run on a REAL OS not just on dumpy Windows.  If this doesn’t happen soon I will definitely not be purchasing Maya even though I really like it.  I will have to go with something that actually works, like Blender.

I’m hoping Autodesk is working on this, but I’m not holding my breath.

It’s a bit late to ask for that now, but that should be done already. 2011 is only a few months away. You can breathe.

I guess my request is more mundane.

I would like to have a ray-object intersect call in the MMeshIntersector class, not only a closestPoint call.

This would make a multi-threaded ray intersector a breeze to program and should be real easy to incorporate in the API.

"2011 is only a few months away. You can breathe.”

Isn’t the normal Maya release in August, unless of course they have changed the release date to coincide with the yearly 3D Max release. Hopefully 2011 is a significant release, might be better if they hold off to August, giving a full 2 years to build a significant new Maya release. I have no idea what they have built, so maybe they already have a significant release ready in a few months.

I predict that Maya 2011 will be released with all other Autodesk products this spring during their “global launch”. It used to be around Siggraph of course, when Siggraph still mattered to Alias. It doesn’t anymore; Autodesk is too big to be concerned about Siggraph and Maya has to fit in the release schedule - just like all their other products.

Hello all,

Yes, a wish list

- support for PTEX definitively

- A real robust 3D view on all platforms

- FIXED THE SOUND TROUBLES AND COMPATIBILITIES WITH AUDIO CARD UNDER LINUX

- PYQT interface

- easely way to use external python instead python delivered with maya (on linux / windows / mac use 2.6 instead 2.5 easely)

- A real playblast system, can be batch rendered, no need to open maya (command line). Also possibility to make a video file under linux with sound, and possibility to use it like on window and mac

- background render for the render view

Release date: Not to mention the fact that Maya 2010 has absolutely nothing new compared to 2009, except for the fact that it’s bundled with Toxik and MatchMover, which most people will never use anyhow, but there has been no innovation whatsoever. So really it doesn’t count as an update of any sort, except for the fact that Autodesk makes you pay for it. The code for 2011 should be more than mature by now.

And let me second the wish for Mac OS X 64-bit Snow Leopard. The only reason I have not been able to update to Snow Leopard is because of Maya.  Autodesk doesn’t seem to care very much though.

Maya 64 bit for OS X is a nice to have version, but that means you are addicted to apples graphic card range.
by the way, the higest graphiccard from apple you can get is a nvidia quadro fx 4800. NOT the 5800 !!!

no sli is supported, and apple never sold the highest graphic card configuration in the past! this is less I need for high end gpu rendering.

I´m a great apple fan, and for photography and office I never will change the OS, but for rendering WIN or LINUX are the better choise.

autodesk, please add a realtime gpu renderer in the viewport. ( iray , etc...) it´s the best you can do. we need realtime control of our work.
best tom

i wish maya to have....
...better render view, which could display any of the passes existing in image (not only RGBA)
...better hypershade in sense of more comfortable work with node connections
...full support linear color workflow (gamma corected color picker, GUI color wheels, etc)
...simple built-in node-based compositing tool to compose textures and rendered images within maya

As big expectation with the upcoming maya 2011 I would like to have:

- PYQT interface
- New Python core to access everything in python “the real python”.
- full multithreading performance in all modules.
- A new open GL viewer supporting millions of polygons on every plateform and not only 64 bits version.
- definitively a solid import /export tools for FBX, OBJ, RIB. the actual are just horrible to use in production ( 3dsmax is far better in this area.)
- Ptex support and a better paint tool with the power of QT interface.
- better fluids resolution like dynamic scale and things like that.
- better nucleus module including support for hair curves.

that’s all for now.
