I have been using Maya 2011 since it’s release and I do agree with people when they say it would be nice to have the mental ray materials work well with the viewer.  I think the Maya team is well aware of this problem.  I love the new features like being able to quickly search for a node in the hypershade windows using the search tool.  I also love the fact that I can create different icons to represent different shading assets.  The improvements to the overall program has allowed me to be much more productive.  I know I have written this many times but, I am always amazed by how well each tool works with each other. I had modeled a very detailed tree inside of Maya and then in Mudbox.  I took the model and wrote a simple script to select all the verts of the end branches.  I then used the create soft-body tool with weights to place a particle at each vert.  I I then created some animated leaves and instanced them to the soft-body particles.  I also added some deformers to the tree as well.  Using some simple set driven keys, deformers, and some particles I created a animated tree that could shed its leaves.  My point to this is that if you take the time to learn this program (MAYA) you will find yourself inspired to create and most importantly animate.  My only issue with the new interface is that if you have several windows open (Graph editor, Hypershade, Trax editor, Attribute window) and you are clicking through different objects or materials due to the fact that Maya updates all of these windows to your selection this causes the Qt interface to become unstable at times.  I know it is difficult to create an interface that looks good and performs well but, I do feel that this performance and stability needs to be improved.  Thank you.

I’d like hypershade to be updated to the standard of 3dsmax’s new Slate material editor. Hypershade is already 95% there - It just needs a facelift.

On the subject of materials, how about a real world material scale option.

And while we’re at it, how about combining outliner and hypergraph into one super viewing/organizing panel instead of two.

Att: Autodesk.

Try out some of these modelling tools! (Notably intersections, face cutting, use of rulers, automatic vertex merging and splitting, etc...)

I think the command you are looking for is add divisions.  Poke face works just like it should it creates a point.

1) update Hair. I can’t blend caches in hair like I can in nCloth. Shouldn’t it be all ported to nDynamics now?
2) True Pose-based Deformation support
3) would be nice if the satellite system were more stable - if a satellite goes down it takes the whole farm down, can cause maya to crash and lose work, etc
4) the ability to re-order user-defined attributes in the channel box
5) FaceRobot in Maya
6) more colors available in the display options - there’s only a set number of presets and Maya is already using some of them. Would be helpful in coloring controls if I had more options
7) Script editor is better, but still not as good as Mel Studio Pro. In Mel Studio Pro you have a window listing all the procs in the script, as well as the ability to write expressions in it. Much better than the expression editor.

1 - Buy the great plugins for Maya like ‘Soup’, ‘Nex’ and many other and integrate it.

2 - Make the hotkeys follow the selected Menus. If you choose the Polygons menu u`ll have access of all hotkey for polygons. Like that will have much more control for the hotkeys.

Wow, lots of great suggestions guys! Mine are rather tiny but it would be nice to be able to use the forward and back buttons on my mouse inside of file open/save dialog.

I would also really like to see backburner fully compatible with windows 7 x64 systems.
