First and foremost, for God’s sake some decent object duplication tools. How about an array duplicate that can make objects in rows, automatically create circles of things without having to move centerpoints, figure out angles, etc. How about duplicate along a curve? Duplicate Special is antiquated and needlessly complicated. It doesn’t even label the XYZ axes.
How about some better explanations in the documentation about what the difference is between, say, containers, characters and similar things are? The writing assumes you already understand what they are talking about.
Make it easier to get deeply buried attributes into Set Driven Key. And on the subject of SDR, the names of objects often get jumbled up in the list when they are parented.
Why is it that you can make an object name in the Channel Box and it will obligingly add underscores to spaces, but the Layers Editor complains when you type names with spaces?
Maya desperately needs some imbedded math functions in attribute entry boxes. In Lightwave you can type in that, for example, your Translate X is 123 feet + six meters / 2. That saves a lot of time in certain weird situations. Yes I know it sort of has a function like this, but how about one that works everywhere and has more options?
How about a better way to deal with scale in scenes with have objects of widely divergent sizes?
Importing files like DXF or OBJ has always been chancy in Maya. AutoCAD files always come in way too big, rotated sideways and centered on the corner of the object. One of the best things about the various incarnations of the Adobe CS programs is how well they toss information around between them. AutoCAD and Maya have been owned by the same company for how many years now? The fact that their data exchange borders on the slipshod is inexcusable.
