Question: Do you think the Help files are sufficient to learn how to use Maya?

Absolutely. The help files show clever ways they solve problems and how to use them for different types of problems or results

Yes. They explain very effeciently why the tool exists and how to use a tool in Maya

Sufficient. But often, I wish it would explain more with examples

Not sufficient. Too technical. Great for a TD but not for an artist.

Include a tutorial with every Help item in the directory.

It’s not just enough to show how to click and use commands to get a result--as the technical writing of the current Help files exist--but why the tool was made, and the clever ways they solve problems and how to use them for different types of problems or results.

Macromedia Flash was so successful in part early on because it came with a very robust and smartly made set of tutorials, and were installed with the program.  They taught users all the tools and many clever ways to use them.  With that knowledge learned, a user could mix all those principles and start working freely with Flash on their own.
