There are a ton of big improvements and it is really cool Autodesk so obviously listened to feedback. My biggest wish for Maya 2015 is: [b]remove the outdated stuff. Test the current stuff more.[/b] Here's an example I put on Small Annoying Thing to Fix: [b]Viewport 2.0 by default.[/b] A lot of things in Viewport 2.0 still don't work properly. I think that's because Autodesk is not internally testing it much. Imagine if Autodesk disabled Viewport 1.0 and the HQ Rendering Viewport... and used Viewport 2.0 all of the time for internal development? I think that many Viewport 2.0 issues would get fixed then because Autodesk would be acutally using it and saying "oh wow, NEX doesn't work 100% in Viewport 2.0 on my computer... dithering doesn't work with antialiasing... stereo doesn't work... [b]Shatter & DMM[/b] - Shatter is ancient and often just doesn't work. DMM is not a solution either since it's limited to very low polygons unless you buy the full version. Boy would it be nice if we just had a modern Shatter that worked properly. Or Autodesk licensed the full DMM. Or integrated one of the other shatter plugins. Or integrated SoUP... In 3DS Max there is an option to open an image file for modeling reference in a separate window within Max which always stays on top. This is a feature I desperately want in Maya! This is NOT an image plane to model off of but an IMAGE FILE i can get the details from that don't show in a drawing. Currently I open images or groups of images(NOT SEQUENCES) in the default OS program. This is fine with a dual monitor setup, where I throw the reference images to the other screen. But what about when I'm on my laptop on the go or have no other monitor? Currently I'd have to open the same program, have it underneath MAYA and flip back and forth, which is a very big hassle over time. I'd like to be able to open a small, resizable window WITHIN maya and view the image file(or files!) there so I can move it around my workspace and glance over to it in an instant. Currently all the suggestions I keep getting is to put it on an image plane. WHAT! these few more steps are quite preposterous when I just wish to open an image; boom its there. I still want my four of all of my panels to work with. With it being resizable i can even shrink it down to get the gist in the upper right corner where no icons are even zoom in on parts with such a small window, but WOW what a HUGE asset such a small thing would be. Here's my list and descriptions: 1. Integrated game engine – make your models, animations, materials and/or textures, and add physics, AI, mouse/keyboard/joystick events, etc (everything from hair to cloth as well in-game simulated with Unlimited Detail as described next). All of the game code should be handled “in the background”, so users just click buttons to add certain AI to their models for example. 2. Unlimited Detail rendering – something I'd love to see in Maya as I've seen running in a game like scene that was rather large in scale I think, and it was showcased on YouTube. Just search YouTube for “Unlimited Detail Real-Time Rendering Technology Preview 2011”. I'd like it if this could be run as a part of the above mentioned integrated game engine as well as all over in Maya. That way People could make any amount of polygons they want in a mesh, without worries about the graphics card too much. I think the “Unlimited Detail” video said something about a Point Cloud mesh convertor for 3ds Max and Maya so users can convert their Polygon meshes to point cloud data meshes. The video of Unlimited Detail is pretty amazing from what I saw. They even made a rock from a 3d scan of a real rock, and brought it into their 3d point cloud data mesh world they made. The speaker of the video said that the company they work at is a technology company, not a game company. Their graphics were still very well made in my opinion. 3. Mesh to PaintFX – Make a mesh in Maya or any other modeling software (of course import it to Maya first), optionally provide a changeable texture or material of any of the following for example: color, specular, bump, displacement, alpha map etc.. Then just click on a tab in the PaintFX window, and the tab would say something like “My PaintFX”, and there should be a button for adding a custom mesh to make it into a PaintFX brush both in 2d and 3d automatically. At least as a plugin or bonus tool that lets maya access the features of mental ray 3.10. Really just including the libiray.dll libiraymr.dll and cudart64_40_17.dll in bonus tools would be a good start. After all it was the first GPU render available and now it's been beaten into maya by octane and vray. Seeing as now it supports shaders that are usable in mental ray and it does object blur.
