I was pretty disappointed to find that Substance doesn’t work with mental ray in Maya 2012. Evidently there’s a Substance Bonus Tools download that adds this functionality. Why was this not included in the base package of Maya 2012? It would seem to be a very, very common thing that everyone needs.
The Maya 2012 documentation even mentions that “The Maya software renderer is not recommended for use with normal maps.” This is ironic considering that the default behavior of the Substance node is to use normal maps rather than bump maps.
Please include mental ray functionality in Substance for Maya 2013.
