We got lots of big features in Maya, like Maya Muscle, Fluids, Composite, Matchmover, Ncloth…

Whats your desired next big feature you’d like to see (pay for) in the next Maya releases?.

My chosen one would be “Crowd”, one of the most wonderful features of Autodesk softimage.

What do you say?. Something like facerobot or the old facestation?
Pherhaps another thing?

- possibilty to save scene to lower version of Maya
- full multithread
- good and fast GPU renderer

Maybe i am wrong but i think that an Maya ASCII file is what ur asking for(save to older versions).Please clarify this to me becose i am not ablsolute shure.

of course, in Maya asci format after replacing of head etc.  maybe you can open it. But for example I have some bigger scenes, which isn´t possible to save in asci format (I don´t know why) - there si only message that “file contains unknown nodes or data. To preserve this information, the current file type cannot be changed”.

Not a “big” feature, but a basic way to edit keyframe in the viewport would be nice!
It have been some plugin that have done this up over the years, but as it is with plugin. they don’t live forever.

@pened: Have to tried File>Optimize Scene? And then save your scene once, then try saving again as a .MA.

@jarud: In 2012 there are editable motion trails you can use. So you can visually see the non-linear path something is moving along, as well as the keys that are set on that path. You can easily adjust this path within the viewport, making for a very interactive way to create and edit key-frames and motions.

Sorry, but that’s user error. You already have “ignore file version”, and it would be a REALLY BAD IDEA to allow a user to save a file in a different format if not all the plugins are loaded that you need. Maya is already pretty good about handling that.

I would like to see some nice tools for modelers. Particularly a complete workflow for retopology, this would include intuitive tools for quickly drawing edge loops (or sketching or filling areas with quads) over an existing model, and Maya automatically generating polygon meshes. Once these meshes are drawn user should be able to slide components along underlying surface (also sliding user defined edge loops accurately), or average detail out in relation to underlying surface. Also smoothing out edge loops - averaging vertex path along 3D space to give straighter loop, but constrained to model, to give models are very clean and refined look. Also a few simple improvements like extruding complex edge perimeters inwards, without odd distortions (I believe this is known as inset in other applications). Insert edge loop tool, with “Retain Surface Tangency”, basically offsetting edge loops in relation to curvature of model, if it was smoothed a couple of times.

Also simply having a more integrated render view window, so we can switch between render passes within Maya. Basically just a faster, more feature complete implementation of 16bit - 32bit multi-pass workflows, which are becoming very standard.

Cryengine like hardware renderer, supporting openGL 4.0 and a GPU based renderer like Vray RT-GPU.

get rid of mental images.

Mental Images has a GPU renderer also, called iRay. You just have to do a couple things first to enable it in Maya 2012. Hopefully it will be fully integrated in Maya 2013.

i want a Retopology feature in MAYA which ensures better integration with Mudbox

i want a Better Dynamics system blast effects , shatter effects and cool Hairs and Fur Systems.
