The arms of my character move slightly everytime i set keys or manipulate them. If i’m in fullbody mode they move everytime i manipulate or key the rig in any way, which is a big problem since it screws up my animation all the time and i constantly have to fix the armkeys if i’v been working on other bodyparts in fullbody mode.
I have had this problem for a while now both in Mb 7.5 and 2009, alot of collegues have the same problem. I suspect it has something to do with gimbal lock somewhere in the arms and i have tried to play around with quaternion rotation and rotation order stuff but nothing seems to work.
Is this just a problem for me and my collegues or are other people seeing this behavour in their rigs and is there a solution to the problem?
Any help at all is appreciated.

Ok so i found the solution. Turning of DOF for the bones in the arm solved the problem. Even if there where no min/max values etc defined the DOF was screwing with the rotations of the bones.

what do you refer to as DOF? I’ve had a similar problem before and would love to know how to fix it next time round! :)

Select the bones in the arm that is behaving badly and in the properties window find “Degrees Of Freedom-->Rotation” and uncheck the “Enable Rotation DOF” checkbox. My problems stopped after that and i don’t really know why this is enabled by default. It would be nice to know if it is used or needed for some features to work, so far i have had no bad side effects.
It is possible that the “Degrees of Freedom” tab in the properties window is not enabled by default so you might have to go into customize and add it undert the “View editor” tab.
