Hi everyone,

I am new to MotionBuilder and I have what I hope is a very simple question.

I have attached a zip file which contains a file called “Dude.fbx” and its corresponding texture files. Dude.fbx is an example animation created by Microsoft for use with an XNA example called Skinned Model http://creators.xna.com/en-US/sample/skinnedmodel. I am ignoring the animation information from the .fbx file and instead I am using live data from a motion capture suit. I am just applying data from each motion capture sensor directly to the corresponding bone of Dude.

My problem is that Dudes default position looks like the attached image “DefaultPosition.jpg” and I need it to be the standard t-position instead. I need it to be the standard t-position because this is what I am calibrating my motion capture suit using.

My question: How can I open the attached Dude.fbx in MotionBuilder and pose him in the standard t-position? Can someone please provide steps for me?

kind regards,
Cathal Coffey

Edit: I cannot seem to add either attachment “Dude.zip” or “DeafultPosition.jpg”. If you download the Dude example from the hyperlink in this post Dude.fbx is stored at unzipped_location\SkinningSample2008\SkinningSample\SkinningSample\Content\dude.fbx

Go to window then skins. Drag the mesh in to the window, select all the bones in the bones list then on the right side of the window there’s a box called “to rest Position.” But since it has keyframes on the take create a new take and select all the bones in the navigator window and key all the bones. You need to this because if you you close the skin window the bones snap back to the first frame of the animation.

After you finish that just adjust his arms up and straighten out his torso. Then you can characterize him.

Here, I just did the first part for you.
