Hi,

I need to re-target between two skeletons, but have big issues..

The animation data on the source skeleton is “clean”, in that elbows only rotate in Y (Hinge joint behaviour)

I need the data on the target skeleton to also be “clean”, so no rotates in X and Z for the elbow please! (Unless this is present in the source data as such, cause an animator might break a joint on purpose)

But when animation is re-targeted between the skeletons, the result is “hugely” dirty rotations, with plenty of rotation on X and Z. How would I avoid this? Talking to Autodesk, all I get is: “That’s how motion builder solves”. But can this really be true and is there no way around that?

Please help me!! :-)

Thanks,
Sune

Hey Sune, two things will help fix this, strait arms T pose during characterization and joint limits set on the skeleton .

oh and also, you can adjust the roll bone extraction to not allow the elbow joint to rotate, pushing the rotation back to the wrist. By default it will twist the elbow = bad news.
