Hi Nicolas,
You should refer to the mia_servo character that ships with MotionBuilder 2010 for reference of how to setup joint chain as Character Extension. The example file is included in
the tutorials folder in the asset browser or install directory.
The setup uses standard joint chain setup with ChainIIK constraint that has been added to the Character Extension. To add ChainIK constraint, Alt+Drag the constraint from the
Asset Browser Constraints folder, then add the joint links from your tail object as First Joint and End Joint- for Chain IK, you should also add a Null or other object to be
used as the effector(i.e. object that you will animate on to move the chain)
Once ChainIK constraint is setup- it should be added along with the effector object to Character Extension- This is so that any animation or poses done on the character
extension are saved along with the Character when working in Character Controls Window.
Brief Tutorial explaining how to work with Character Extensions can be found in the following locations:-
Help-Tutorials-Creating A Character Extension
Further information on Character Extensions is in the Help in the following location:-
Help-MotionBuilder Help-Animating With Characters-Character Setup-Character Extensions
If you need further help with this, you should contact the Autodesk Support team(if you have active subscription support) for them to take a look at your setup.
Best Regards,
Lee
