Hi lacampiza,

If you have Subscription Support setup for MotionBuilder you should contact the Autodesk Support team so that they can take a look at the setup in the scene.

It sounds like there is either an issue in setup of the character or that the settings used in Character Settings-

Character Setup / Character Definition

Is the Character setup and Characterized with Control Rig correctly?- check in the Character Definition for the Character that the arm joints are part of the Character Definition and also check that moving the Control Rig effectors for the Character are affecting the arms and hands. Also make sure that the Character is characterized in standard T-Pose with arms outstretched- if your Character is characterized with arms in different pose (i.e. at side) loading animation from character that is characterized in different standard T-Pose will create offset.

Character Settings – Retargeting

If you are using retargeting in the Character setting to retarget animation from one character to another in same scene check the settings as there are options for reach and pull etc for the arms.

You can also load the animation through the Character Controls-File-Load Character Animation – this will open dialogue with options for how the animation is loaded. Check the options here if you are loading this way as the options control how the animation is transferred.

Best Regards,

Lee

thanks for your answer Lee but I can’t find the problem because I have the character in T pose, I think it’s well characterize and control ring because y can move all the parts of the body together, I think that the problem could be the offset but I can’t find the problem because the legs of the character move well but the arms move like a bird instead of moving forward and backward… thanksss

Hi lacampiza,

The arms definitely sound like they are offset. I’ve seen this before where the character clip you are using for the animation has had the character characterized in a pose that is non-standard(i.e. not T-Pose)- You should make sure that characters are characterized in standard T-Pose to resolve this.

You can also fix this by using retargeting with the reach settings to get the motion across- to do this you will need to have both characters loaded in the scene at same time:-

1. Load your new character that you want to get the motion onto.
2. File-Merge-Append your old character into same scene so that you have both.
3. From Character Controls Window, select your new character and choose Intput-Character and set the old character as input to drive the motion.
4. Go to the Navigator Window and select the Character node for your new character, this will display the Character Settings winow.
5. In Character Settings, set the reach values for the hands to 100%- this will make the hands reach to global position of your old character’s hands in space.
6. From Character Controls Winodw, select new character and choose Plot Character to Plot the animation across.

Note: If using reach to match position when retargeting, your character’s proportions will need to be roughly similar.

If you need further support with this and have subscription setup with Autodesk- you should contact the MotionBuilder support team so that they can take a look at the scene files.

Best Regards,

Lee

thanks Lee I have found what was wrong, the problem was the values of the hands you told me that I it was 0% but know I’ve put 100% and it works perfectly, thank you very much
