In Mobu you have a few options to retarget/reference your motions.

1. Clip’s in Story Window (No retargeting)
2. Character Controls (Load/Save Animation)
3. Character Controls (edit-retarget)

What is the Best Workflow, if you want to retarget a walk cycle from a Cow to a Dog.
Is it actually possible?

And how is the workflow for (Edit-Retarget).
The Doc say: “Selecting Retarget copies keyframe animation from the Control rig of the character selected as the Input Source to the Control rig of the current character”

But for me it’s always greyed out.

Hi Sublet,

Some info below-

1. Story Character Track - will allow you to load a character animation done on one character onto another through Clip loaded in Character Track- No retargeting options are available, though the software should do a reasonable job of interpreting the motion onto new rig.

2.Character Controls Load/Save - The Character Controls File/Load Character Animation option allows you to load and retarget motion automatically, although you do not have the same options in editing the retargeting as with option 3 below.

3.Character Control Edit/Retarget - this option is only available when one character is already set as input to other through the Character Controls- both characters have to be loaded in scene. at same time.  To switch input on character; on the new character you want to retarget to, choose Edit-Input and select the Character you want to retarget from in the scene. Note: Both characters need to be Characterized for retargeting motion.

With option 3 above, when the input is switched to Character Input instead of Control Rig Input: the motion from one character drives the other. options to control how the retargeting is applied between the characters can be found from the Character Settings Window in MotionBuilder.

To open the Character Settings Window, Open a Navigator View, then select the Character node to open the Character Settings. From here, you can adjust the settings for retargeting before Plot- if the characters are similarly proportioned you may want to play with the reach for hands and feet to match placement.

Regards,

Lee

Hi Lee

thanks for the Infos.

But i still don’t get the Edit/Retarget Option available.
I tried it with and without ControlRig with no luck.
