I was trying the Softimage 2010 demo. Awesome to see some MotionBuilder support. Wondering if it might be possible for someone to outline (or a quick tutorial) on using the new MotionBuilder TEMPLATE RIG thats in Softimage 2010? Very Excited to see this offered!  I know its just a matter of transferring animations from one rig to another but Iam clueless.

Here is info from the wiki ...

Any help would sure be appreciated.  Thanks :)

Hi growthweb,

I’ve had a look at this- the new MotionBuilder Rig template in Softimage is basically a template skeleton that matches standard joint naming for Characterization in MotionBuilder.

You should be able to use this skeleton as starting point to skin your character meshes to for export to FBX and MotionBuilder. In MotionBuilder, the skeleton can be characterized automatically as the joint naming in the rig template matches the standard naming in Character Definition. For further info on Characterizing and working with control rigs in MotionBuilder refer to the tutorials and documentation included.

For import back to Softimage, you should plot the animation onto the skeleton in MotionBuilder then save as FBX- The FBX animation can then be imported back to the original model in Softimage. For further info on basics of interop between MotionBuilder and other applications refer to the Getting Started guide included with the software- it provides quick start guide to interop between Maya/3dsMax – FBX – MotionBuilder, the process should be roughly similar to working with Softimage – FBX -MotionBuilder.

Best Regards,

Lee
