No tutorials or any info I can find whatsoever on using the SOFTBODY, FLUID, and CLOTH. I have the proper video card running PHYSX but I get this error when I go to simulate .... “FLUID is NOT SUPPORTED BY ODE 0.11”. I get that with cloth and softbody too. So, this is going to be an uphill battle trying to figure out how to use these new features. And to get them to work. Please any help if possible. Thanks very much.

Select solver, got to properties, see drop down list where you can change solver (default is ODE).

BTW. For cloth/softbodies/fluids it’s good to lower solver iterations to 6.

Thanks so much KxL! I changed it to PHYSX 2.8.3 instead of odl. But now I get “UNABLE TO INITIALIZE PHYSICS ENGINE”.  My laptop video card geforce gt240m does support PHYSX and is turned on. Have any idea why getting “UNABLE TO INITIALIZE PHYSICS ENGINE” error?

Hi there,

Did you install the PhysX software from nVidia?! If not, go to this link:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx_9.10.0129.html

See if it helps.

Hi,

i can get the cloth physics to work thanks to the tips provided here.
However I haven’t found a way to attach the cloth to a bone, for example
to have a cape attach to a character’s shoulder.  Is there a way to do this
in motionbuilder 2011?

thanks for your help,

e1

I got fluids and cloth to work on MB 2012 but soft body is still not working…

I wonder why Autodesk allows software without instructions or tutorials to be used… not very samart of them....

You’ll want to check out KxL’s excellent tutorials regarding physics in MotionBuilder.

Cloth is part of the overall Physics system.
