Cool that you solved it, can you send a screen shot? I’m trying to figure it out too.

Just pull your main window as big as you want your both views in total to be and then undock every gui interface except the view, then press ctrl+2 for split pane.

I’m very surprised the user still cannot open the schematic view outside of the ‘viewer’ window, or even the ability to open multiple instances of the ‘Viewer’ window. Especially with the hype of the new ‘everything’ dockable designed UI. Eh, regardless, the above mentioned is the only way around it that i have found also.
Manually deciding how the viewer will split (horizontally or vertically) may help, but still isn’t the ideal preference.

To force it to split vertically without having to span across all monitors, try changing this entry

TwoPanesSplit Vertical Options are (AutoHorizontalVertical)

located in the myMachineName.Application.txt

which reside in a path similar to the example paths below;
32 bits - C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\My Documents\MB\2012\config\MachineName.Application.txt
64 bits - C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\My Documents\MB\2012-x64\config\MachineName.Application.txt
