Hi everyone,

I’m an experienced Maya and 3Ds Max user and I’ve recently started using Motion Builder to assist me with my character animations. I’ve designed a character in 3Ds Max using a biped rig and I linked the eyes and tongue to the head joint. When exporting to MoBu via FBX these parts disconnect from the head and there is no tool for it in Characterization.

I tried adding them to the head control using Parent/Child constraint but this resulted in them moving from their desired position/rotation and when I scale the model they do not scale with it.

I want to find the best method to rig the head so if anyone has any suggestion on how to set this up, and hopefully include good controls for these body parts and the character’s facial shapes, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot,

T

what I used to do before using Face robot is parent the eyes and mouth to the jaw joint or head joint then freeze transform. so when I take it to motionbuilder for mocap stuff I have the whole mesh as a unit. Now with all the packages playing together. It may be better to just do your facial set up in softimage. and retarget MB to maya. Since maya and MB have the same character control rig.
I rather animate in maya over motionbuilder. And only use motionbuilder for mocap files only. Facerobot in softimage has change the way I set up my rigs now. were before it was mostly done in MB but to each is there own. You can parent and freeze to keep it all together. Hope that helps

Hi Relacon,

Thanks a lot, I hadn’’t thought of using Softimage. I’ll look into it and see what good set up I can make. I’ll post again what I find and if I have any problems.

Cheers,
