We are using Motionbuilder 7.5 in our current Mocap room. We would like to upgrade our current computer to a new one as the old one is starting to fail. Unfortunately we have lost the installation media, and cannot get it anymore through autodesk.

So we were thinking of updating to 2012, but since I’m only IT and don’t really know how the software works, I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on whether or not their old files would still be compatible with 2012 or if there were any other issues we would have to consider, or if we should upgrade to an earlier version than 2012.

Thanks!

We’re using 2009 and have attempted to upgrade to 2012. Autodesk will not support backwards compatibility (ie 2012 to 2009/7.5) please correct me if I’m wrong. You should have no problems going from 7.5 to a later version, but I would only upgrade as far as 2011 for now. 2012 has been a mess. Numerous bugs, that if youre lucky you’ll find workarounds. We’ve worked with autodesk support to correct what we could, although we’re still hestitant to fully embrace it. More bugs seem inevitable and we have our own development to focus on and stabilize. Thats just my opinion. And I hope I’m wrong.
