Hello everyone,

I bought the TrueBones motion capture library and I’m trying to retarget some of the animations to a couple of my characters, specifically a dwarf and a giant. I need some guidance on how to do this. My characters are all in a t-pose position so I placed the bones in a starting t-pose and matched it up against my dwarf and giant meshes, stretching or shrinking the bones as necessary. I was told to do this using BVHacker, but I don’t understand how you can do this without having your mesh there as a frame of reference. I’ve watched the retargeting video and did the retargetting just the way they said to do it, and when I press play it works great, it transitions smoothly from the initial t-pose that I added through the mocap animation. Perfect. Problem is when I export to FBX and load into maya, the t-pose disappears completely, as if I never added it. I’ve struggled with this for weeks and once I accidentally managed to get the initial t-pose into maya (but I forgot how) but when I pressed play it wasn’t smooth like in motionbuilder. First frame it was in t-pose position but next frame it was at the first frame of the mocap data; there was no smooth transition in between, as had been the case in motionbuilder. I’m guessing motionbuilder applied the smooth transition automatically but it doesn’t get saved to the fbx. Would someone point out what I’m doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Anthony
