have any of you guys had problems with extracting a normal map with 32 bit?
I keep getting “map extraction failure” errors..
it’s a character thats abuot 3million triangles that i want to bake onto a 7k basemesh..
I’ve played with a combination of settings, but haven’t been able to find one that can give me a successful extraction. :(
I’m on 1.0.6 btw.

hi Dave
thanks for the prompt reply.. well i tried it again today and i was able to get some “extracting” done.. rather I extracted 8 byte files that had no data in them when I tried opening them in photoshop.
I guess mudbox is being finicky, not quite sure if you’d be able to replicate this error.
But I hope you can figure something out.
All the unwraps are in positive space.

What renderer are you using to render the 32 bit floating point normal map? This would be help to know.
Update**
There looks to be a bug in the GUI. You should not have access to that option. If you are using Mudbox for specifically 32 bit floating point normal maps please contact and we may be able to offer some suggestions. This issue will be resolved in a future update to the software. Again it would also help us if you could post the specific reason you require 32 bit float normal map and what renderer you are using or for what purpose you are using such a format?
Thank you for pointing this out.

Hi Dave
I went 32 bit for no particular reason other than to keep as much data as possible. I guess I shouldn’t be in there from the sounds of it.
Thanks for the update then. :)

This may actually help answer a question I had as well. Does Mudbox have a specific issue rendering D32 maps? I was getting the same tiny files issue as monkeey…
