I am running MB ver 1.06, I’ve suddenly developed crash-itis. Been purring like a kitten since I first installed on its release, started yesterday when I cleaned up a directory. Opened a working mud file, tried to subdivide the mesh I had worked on successfully previously and crash.
reopened the app, created a cube, mudbox crashes on creation.
The app has worked for too long to be a driver issue, as I have installed the latest drivers.
Any ideas?

I had a similar problem. This worked:

Try closing Mudbox and then go to the C:Documents and SettingsUserMy DocumentsMudbox dir and delete the Mudbox 1.0 directory there along with the setting directory inside. Mudbox will create a new settings directory once you restart the application

good luck

Alex

Hi there,

I’m new to the program and I’m having this same problem.
Unfortunately I’m a pc thickhead… so would there be any chance you can post that directory with all the proper slashes, etc for me Alex?
Thnx

Here ya go:

C:\Documents and Settings\"user"\My Documents\Mudbox\Mudbox 1.0\settings

The “user” part is probably “Administrator” if you haven’t changed it.

Good luck

Alex

I know this is a little old, but anyone have any idea what’s causing this? I believe this has started happening to me. Mostly when I drop down subdivsion levels and readjust my mesh with the Soft B brush.

I don’t have an answer for you, but that’s exactly what stopped me upgrading from the trial version.
The initial fix worked but once I started subdivisions it just didn’t hold up anymore, which is a huge shame because I love what I learned from using this prog.. I hope you guys can iron out this fault completely eventually.

Cheers :)

I am getting crashes at my first shift+d.  A little indicator gets to 90% on the bottom and then MB hangs.

I deleted the config.

The mesh is clean and has nice UVs, all quads, all UV’d.  I have gotten other meshes to go through, so I see it as a mesh particular issue, but I still thought throwing this out there was still a good idea.

i had the same issue and i tracked down the cause and fixed it before i thought of looking here. :o

what happened to me is i was watching the digital tutors video on mudbox and running mudbox and a bunch of other aps at the same time. mudbox them would not run and would crash about 15 sec after starting while hanging up right after the UI came up. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times and it did not work. after uninstalling again i killed off the remains of the instal dirrectory and it still did not fix it. then after reading the crash log file and running a HD access monitoring program i saw it was hanging up while accessing some of the preference files. i then deleted the
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Mudbox\Mudbox 1.0\settings
folder and it worked again. it looks like i managed to crash it while it was accessing and changing one of the preference files. (if i remeber right i was changing a keyboard shortcut when it crashed) it looks like one of the files got corrupted and mudbox tried to read it and choked on it and crashed.

**note to self** read the forum before you spend 3-4 hours debugging a problem.
