sorry if this is a silly question, but i’ve had a look around and couldn’t find an answer, is there a way to disable my UVs, i know i can import them again using ‘Import UV’ but is there a way i can kill them? i’m using Max 2009 if theres a way of killing in there and reimporting, i’m half way through a sculpt and just feel a bit slowed down by my system
thanks

If you are using multiple UV tiles you can disable the other tiles you are not working on by hovering over that part of the mesh and hitting the Up arrow key.
As for removing your UV’s in max you can do that by converting your model to an editable mesh, then go to your utilites tab (in the same place with your create and modifier stack). There should be a button in there that says UVW Remove, if it’s not in there by default you can add it to the list or access it by hitting the More… button.
Now i’m not entirely sure about this, but I think you have to have UV’s on your object before bringing it into mudbox. I know the few tests I ran (before the service pack) anything I brought into Mud without UV’s would go crazy on the lowest subdivision.
So long story short you can kill the UV’s, but i think you need them anyways to work in Mud.

remove UVW utility is misleading because all it does is reset the UVs, not actually remove them. i’ve decided just to buy a new graphics card, probably a nvidia 285 with a 1GB of memory, because my 9800 GX2 only uses 512mb of the 1GB in Max and mudbox and its been annoying me for a while, the 9800 is good for games, but not much point of having a 1GB if i can’t use it all for 3d.
i thought there might be a way to diasble the UV’s like in zbrush which makes scultping and painting a bit smoother. because theres the ‘Import UV’s’ option in mudbox i thought you might be able to, would be a nice little feature to have in future releases. ordering my card tomorrow, now just got to try sell my 9800
