Hi all,

Hoping someone can help with this:  I’m looking to export displaced geometry from Mudbox as an .obj for use with an external program.  I’m trying to apply a detail disp-map to a part of the model by selecting a group of faces and applying the map to the selection.  The image has been prepared in Photoshop with the correct proportions to match the objects UVs.  It all checks out and displaces the mesh just fine.  Here’s the problem: The group of selected/displaced faces have become detached from the model and are translated away from the original surface.  I’m guessing this could be a grey-scale issue; is there a neutral point between 0 and 255 where the geometry would not move?  The original geometry is derived from a continuous polygonal sub-d model.  Can I apply a displacement map to a local area of the model and get the geometry to hang together?

Apologies for any cross-program terminology.  Hope you get the gist of what I’m trying to achieve.

Many thanks

Mick
