Hi guys,

I have just started using mental ray as oppose to vray as I need to use vector displacement maps. I am happy now with the export and level of detail but am getting this annoying splitting edges effect. There are no artefacts on the map, and if I play with the edge length the problem gets worse.

If anyone can help I would really appreciate it..

Li

Did your try to load the v-dmap on your basemesh in mudbox? Does it look o.k in mudbox?

Yea its looks great in MB.. I tried a few different modes and ended up using object mode which give me a better result but its still not great. Another problem that popped up is when in max you can see all the seams on the diffuse texture as if the unwrapped parts don’t quite fit.. ill show a screenshot when I load up.

Hard to say.

Did you gamma correct your VD-Map or do you use a Sytem Gamma Correction?
Did you scale your model (reset x-form)? Do you use physical MR_Shaders?
UVs are correct?

I had never problems rendering VD-maps in MR and Max.
