| From three UV tiles to one tile [help]
|
|
|
Hello,
I have a problem, it will be very nice if someone helps me a bit, here it is:
I have model in Mudbox with 3 UV tiles, it has 5 subdivisions.
At this point I decided to merge them, I exported the base level into max and rearranged the UVs, then I used the ‘Import UV’ feature.
So far so good, my base level now have only 1 UV tile, but the higher subd levels are completely messed up.
The Import UV works only in base level, and even if I manage to match the higher level UVs to the base level UVs in max I won’t be able to import them in Mudbox.
Is there a workaround for that?
Thanks in advance!

export your high level and low level wiht new uvs into a scene.
bake disp map 32 bit (open exr works very well)
mesh displace the low res using the disp map.
The reason for your problem is porbaly due to having preprocesion on load being set to 1. While this improves performmance it can change the point order.
Hope that helps

Thank you Wayne, and sorry for the late replay!
I tried 100 times, and the result was the same.
Procession was set to 0 from the beginning, I even increased processing lower limit just to be sure.
So, I finished sculpting, and texturing, I was nearly 100% done with everything I even pretend that I don’t see the horrible seams
caused by the normal map. Then I decided just for “fun” to try “import UVs” again...and guess what...It worked!
I can’t even repeat the words that I said at that moment…
The problem was - Me! When I exported the obj with the rearranged UVs from max,
I forgot to untick optimize options from the obj exporter...the sad thing is that I have to retexture almost everything…

I had exactly the same problems the other day!
Why does the 3ds Max’s OBJ “Mudbox” preset have Optimize vertex, normals and texture-coords checked?
Having them unchecked seems to have solved most of my import/export issues :\
