I was in love with mudbox until lately. Let me try to explain. (Mudbox 2011)

I have a head, I subdivided it and sculpted it at several levels up to level 6.  At level 6 I mostly put just textural details and minor wrinkling.  I then created a level 5, and made some major adjustment. (Everything looks good at this point and all layers are on.

However, when I go up to level 6, the model changes.  level 6 seems to revert some of the sculpting. When I go back to level 5, it looks ok again. When I go to that level and delete layer 6, the changes seem to “stick” and I have to re-load the file to get the original back?

Some questions about mudbox.
Are the effects of all levels (1-6) seen even when at a lower level like 1?
Can you delete a layer without being on that layer?
