Hi, I have been having this problem with importing a model into Mudbox 2011 from Maya 2011. When I import the model it comes out with only the back half of the head no matter which way I rotate it, I thought it had something to do with Maya cameras but I had unchecked the ‘Import Camera’ box. The file is a .FBX, when I had the problem I converted it to .obj in FBX Converter, but the same problem persists.

Please help, I am a student and new to Mudbox so the answer is probably really obvious, but I would appreciate it. :)

Looks like your objects normals get flipped somewere in the way. Try to flip the normals of the original model.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip, unfortunately tried it and still getting the same problem.  This is happening with all of my models! But when I create a Maya primitive and export it, it imports fine so clearly a problem with my models rather than the FBX plugin…
