imported OBJ smoothing problem please help!

i made the original mesh in maya.
exported OBJ to mudbox’
sent it back to maya in FBX to resew a part of the mesh.
but now, back in mudbox whenever i try to smooth a part of the model it makes a wierd distortion.
only does that with this model.
please help me i’m in real trouble here

looks like bad geometry…
are there some triangles in the mesh on the center line..?
or vertices with more that five edges..?

nothing like that.
its consistant quads,
its when i smooth that it does that,
its normal in the older version of the model, befor i sent it back to maya, and then to mudbox again
