I have been using mudbox 2010 for sometime now and I must say it is the best sculpting software out there because its very easy to learn especially if u are familiar with Maya. The new alpha channel feature that updates as u paint textures on models is awesome.
I can’t help noticing that the bake ambient occlusion map doesn’t apply for low res models with uvs different from the high res model. This is my workflow-
-I make a base mesh in Maya(I don’t uv map the model),
-I import into mudbox and sculpt my model with all the details.
-export the model to Topogun for retopology.
-uvmap the new low res in Maya.
-import uvmapped low res into mudbox on top of high res sculpt.
-bake normal, displacement maps but ambient occlusion won’t work cause it can only bake the ambient on the model u select.U don’t have the options available in the normal and displacement UI box.
Topogun allows u to bake ambient occulsion from high res to low.U can even bake colour maps.I just prefer mudbox ambient occulsion cause I can manipulate the ambient settings before I bake.

I would also like to be able to bake AO and colour maps between a high res and a low res model with different UVs like you can with normal maps and displacement maps. These are fairly essential options for games work where the low res model is likely to be completely different to the high res model rather than just a lower level version of the same model.

In mudbox 2009,when I painted a colour map, lets say for a character’s hair on the planes, there was no alpha channel I could extract from the file when I exported the texture file. Now,in mudbox 2010,as I paint the hair stands colour map, when I export it.There is an alpha channel that shows the hair strands in black and white.Use the Fcheck feature if u use Maya to save the alpha channel.Really cool.
Mudbox has so much potential,I am hoping if u guys plan to release a service pack 2,kindly include baking ao and colour maps for low res models with different uvs,and I think the feature where one can be able to select a number of faces and apply flood to it would be nice. Also, the paint tool should have a flood feature.
