Hi there folks. I am experiencing to 2 issues.
Firstly after years of using Zbrush in our pipeline, we have decided to give mudbox a go only to fail at the first hurdle.... The sculpt tool will not sculpt!!!! I think the other tools seem to do what they say they do, but no matter what object I try to subdivide or how much I crank the settings nothing happens.  I have checked for obvious things like masks and stuff being locked but I have even deleted the settings folder, all to no avail.
So has anyone any ideas??

Secondly. I am trying to do fabric weave on a characters jacket so its the same height all over the mesh, without constantly going over the mesh with a stamp or stencil, is it possible to do it Mudbox in one go.
Here is how i would achieve this, in Zbrush I would bring in a UV mapped mesh and apply a grey scale image as a mask which would be assigned to the uv cords, when I have clicked the mask by alpha button, then In the deformation tab would inflate by a small amount so the thread pokes through the alpha mask. How would I do this in Mudbox??

Cheers

MM

Try to delete the mud settings folder in mydocuments…

You could load also a texture in mud and use it as sculptmask,.. Rightklick on the paint layer and mask selected… Its a new feature in mud subscription pack…

I have already tried the deleting the settings folder and its still the same.. we are on a try before you buy 30 day demo.
Is this a common problem with Mudbox, not being able to sculpt on a mesh?? are there graphic card issues that one needs to know about.

Maybe a wacom driver problem?

Does it sculpt if you use a mouse? If so, then it probably is a tablet driver. If not, then perhaps check the sculpt strength of the brush.

Hmmm, mouse works fine but I have reinstalled the latest wacom drivers… Intous 2. Can you use these tablets with the latest version of Mudbox. ?? We also have a dual screen set up, just in case this a makes any difference.

Yes I have an Intuos 2 and it works fine for me. I haven’t updated the driver for a while. Not since it was mentioned that Mud would need the latest driver to work (a couple of versions ago I think). I did lose my Wacom setting the other day though and had to set up the buttons and restart windows for pressure sensitivity to work in Mud, so I think a Windows update may have messed it up. Again. Check the Wacom control panel and make sure pressure is right and that the stylus is acting as button 1.

Also check the windows tablet PC settings as they are known to mess up Wacom drivers. If they’re on, try disabling them. I can’t remember where they live off the top of my head, but a search should show you where to look.

to load a texture klick onto the > icon in above the layer tab and choose import layer…

if you are using the demo version you wont find freeze from selected…
its only available in the subscription pack and in the upcoming 2012…

but you could use the sculpt model using dispmap…
maps --> sculpt model using dispmap

Have you checked the near far clip planes of camera? If the model has been scaled at all, or imported at a very different scale to the mudbox default meshes then you may need to adjust them.
