Using default Mudbox meshes to practice sculpting watching video tuts… Want to use the stamp tool but it doesn’t perform as it should and can’t find an answer why…

If I use the stamp tool with the “sculpt tool” - no matter what stamp I use, it comes out too large and or clumpy and spikes.  It will only work as well if I click my mouse and move, not with a single click.  I have my subdivisons up to at least on 6 but then you can see the stamp but causes it to heavily spike.  Any lower than that, it’s just a clumpy mess and nothing resembling to what any of the stamps look like… I don’t know exactly what resolution I’m using either?

When I try using the stamp tools by single stamping and using the Imprint tool, it spikes wildly. Whether I use this on any setting… Small brush - low or high strength, high or low subdivision, the stamp tool is either clumpy, spiked, or on a low subdivison, hardly visible… Could anyone help!?

Sorry?  I’m not familiar with a soft falloff… Watching a video tut and either I missed that or they didn’t mention it...?  Could you help with that please?

Yes, actually, I believe I am… (looked it up) In the Fall Off menu, top row far left, but in fact, I’ve tried them all and still getting jagged edges too… I’ve posted a new project aI started on a Dino mesh and same results… on sub level 3… Don’t know what’s up!?

subdivide the mesh once more and use the smooth brush…
