subdivision problem with selected...

ok there is my prob : i ve got a full head/body, so i make some selection set “head, torso,arms,legs etc...” i select my “head” via selection set, and i click on subdivide selection but it subdivide all my object. i can’t do local subdivision, and after subdividing my selection sets aren"t working anymore on level1.
anyone?
