I’m finding it really hard to work out which is the absolute latest working version of Mudbox to date, and it’s download location.  If someone could point me to it’s location I’d be tremendously grateful.

What is the difference between this and the SAP SP1?  The link on that page takes me to an autodesk page that tells me the download no longer exists.  So.. where is it now?

I currently have Mudbox2011 64bit SAP installed at work and it has that horrible Symmetry on Layer bug and it’s killing me.

Any help and links to the latest download appreciated.

Cheers

Ok, well I tried both now and SAP has all the additions (e.g all Photoshop Blending layers) but the awful symmetry bug on layers is there.  In SP1 the symmetry bug doesn’t exist but it also doesn’t have the extra stuff from the SAP.

Mudbox is a real mess for me right now so I’m unfortunately going back to Zbrush and give 2012 a try when it comes out.  I feel bad for pestering my employer for a copy of mudbox now.  Not impressed. (and yes I did try the demo and I even did some beta testing on Dali but this latest is a bit of a disappointment.)

I’m using the SP1 version and it has all the sub advantage pack features. So I would suggest a full uninstall and re install or delete all you user setting.

Take it or leave it

Yep, that one.  Oglu do you not use sculpt layers in Mudbox?  They’re pretty useful.
The bug has been well documented, they even had a SAP SP1 fix for it at one point but the file seems to have either been moved or deleted.

Anyway.. still using zbrush ;)

i use layers in mud… but i dont care much about symmetry in my models… or i resym them…

but that is no excuse that this bug is still there…
all i can say is report the bug as often as you can…
more reports means higher priority in the bugfixing list…

I care about asymmetry in my models but I want to be able to control that aspect.  So to be able to sculpt symmetrically until later where I would make asymmetrical proportional detailing on a separate layer.
This requires consistency of both Layers and the sculpting tools.  The symmetry line should be sacred. nothing crossing over unless you want it to. (unless of course you’re using topology symmetry) anyway…

I have submitted many bug reports & suggestions (a few of which have made it in) during my time using various iterations of Mudbox; but this latest version is damn near unusable.  I’ve just had another mesh totally corrupted (I think that it’s the Grab brush to blame as I don’t even have any layers)

By the way Oglu, when you say resym, to what are you referring?  Is there some version of Zbrush’s ‘Smart Resym’ in Mudbox?  I was having a look for that the other day.

Cheers

Brilliant Oglu thanks.  Actually I think the last time I used that in Dali it was broken.  Never checked it again.

It’s strange that the selection still bleeds visually like that, but it works so who am I to complain.

there is a shortcut to select a face under the cursor… its shift + S
its easier to select them this way…
