I am quite new to Mudbox…
What kind of pens does mudbox support?
Or can I use any type?
Can one accomplish everything with a normal mouse?
Can someone direct me to some documentation available on Mudbox.
Thanks
Marius

what do you mean by any type? I always thought wacom was pretty much the only game in town… I would not recommend anything but wacom. As for your other question yes and no. You can pretty much do the same thing with a mouse, but why would you want to? there would be no pressure sensitivity so you would have to constantly change brush strength to get the results you want. I would highly recommend using a pen over a mouse. Are you an artist? Traditional? If your new to the whole 3d thing and have no art background I would highly suggest taking some art classes first as this will form the foundation of what you do in mudbox. If you have art background or just plain talent then get a wacom pen and jump on board! The intuos line is really nice for starters, some like the smaller ones, but I prefer using a large tablet, it gives you much more control. Everyone has their prefs, I actually own and use a tablet pc for most of my personal work (it uses wacom penabled technology) and use an intuos 3 at work. Hope that helps.

Yeah wacom is the way to go. I got my tablet as a gift and thought i wouldn’t actually use it much, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty much indispensable. It gives so much more precision than a mouse, plus it feels like you’re drawing. My next goal is to get one of those that are also a screen so you can draw on top of your image.

Maybe the guy means more wacom pen types besides the normal grip pen? Like the Airbrush, marker, etc…

perhaps, if thats the case then I think all wacom brushes work with mudbox, although I would add that mudbox does not support brush angle or rotation.

and the Airbrush feels like a crappy piece of plastic not as nice as the standard intous3 brush.

You use “a tablet pc for most of my personal work (it uses wacom penabled technology)”
Do you mean you use a cintque ? If not what tablet pc do you recommend?
Cheers

Unfortunately Toshiba does not sell the one I have anymore, they keep making the screen size smaller for some stupid reason. Mine is the Tecra M7 their newer model has a smaller screen 12” and only intel integrated graphics card… its crap. I have had this since it first came out about a year ago and its great for me I really wish the interest in tablet pc would shift because I would love to buy one that actually has a decent screen size and proc/graphics card. There is no limit to the tech its just manufacturers choices. Maybe in a couple years things will change. yeah this is wacom penabled tablet pc(laptop with a tablet sensor build into the screen, not a cintiqu). One thing I can say though is that I believe most of the limitations on screen size are wacoms fault, they don’t seem to offer any screen sensors in the mid range size, after 14.1” they skip to something like 19” if I recall. But let me tell you its really awesome, I sit on my couch while I work, for me its very comfortable I have the beginnings of carpal tunnel from work, and getting off the computer and sitting on a couch lets me do personal work at home, I just wish I could sit on a couch at work! Not to mention I can take my tablet wherever I go, I can do sketches at coffee shops or outdoors, but I usually just stick to a couch:-)
