Ha, bringing up old threads from 2 years ago? You’re really desperate to start a flamewar I can see.
Sad really.
You still haven’t made a comment about the work that this thread is about, though it’s been obvious from you first post that you’ve no interest in that, just in stirring trouble.

Not that he needs defending from the likes of me but I dont think attacking Oddity on this thread is helping anyone.

I can clearly see he isnt trolling and is actually trying to help in my honest oppinion at least.

Its a certain skill to infer tone to written word and although Rod’s seems harsh I honastly dont think there is any intention to demorlalize the OP.

Sorry, If I have not been replying etc on this post. I am in Japan on the road, it’s very hard to find Wi-Fi out here in the country side. Only have a few min at this stop.

oDDity

What business is it of theirs or yours if I correctly tell someone that his technique is wrong.

Oddity the simple fact that you had a thread started with your name on it and with author suggesting that you should get banned tells me a lot about your approach to responding to threads in general. I didn’t read it, but I didn’t have to.

oDDity

Starshaw took that advice well, it’s the typical motley crew of trolls, none of whom have the slightest clue what they’re talking about, barging into the thread and taking offence on his behalf who start the arguments.

Again, I agree.

I think that Oddity had nothing but good will writing here. And I think that its great that he took the time to comment this work. An artist of his skill helping others is a big bonus to the forums. Oddity, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Getting him banned would be very bad for the forum users.

His opinion, even a very negative one is very valuable and should be treated as such. I did.

However, that does not mean that I didn’t have a problem with his tone and way of doing it. Being more specific is all that it takes. No need to sugarcoat it, if that’s not you thing. In the long run sugarcoating probably does more harm than good anyway.

Maybe, for this piece saying that anatomy is wrong in too many details for you to mention them all, but still single out the one that bothers you the most. If nothing else, it gives the author an idea what he should look more into the next time and that his modeling still needs a lot of work to be really good in general.

Saying that it’s all wrong, do it all over again and better luck next time- while helpful, in a way, its demoralizing no matter how you cut it- not motivational- or at least I imagine it being so, to more people than not.

Look on the bright side starrshaw, you have a very popular thread :)

I’m not gonna talk about the anatomy, as enough has been said already. I do however agree with oDDity in that you were aiming for realism and the inaccuracies are not a stylistic option.

One thing that strikes me immediately as unnatural is the lack of weight of body. Its too rigid and doesn’t “sit” properly on the surfaces. It needs a sense of gravity. Not wanting to fuel the discussion, but oDDity’s fat lady model may be a good example of what i´m saying. Look at how the feet deform under the weight, and hoe the flesh drops over the bench.

Anyway, you have a good attitude about all this, so i´m sure you can take the valuable info from all the comments and discard the crap that has nothing to do with modeling in Mudbox.

Cheers

In my opinion, this isn’t so bad. It’s all about what you look for and what you know, not just as the artist but as the person looking at an artists’ work.

I - for example - know practically nothing about human anatomy. So to me, this work is actually fairly decent. I can notice some flaws in it but not nearly to the extent oDDity sees and bashed you over the head with it as a result ;)

Wow! I am back from Japan! Lots of activity on my post, very entertaining.

Well, first off, visiting Japan reminded me of Respect and Politeness towards others as its always dose when one visits.
I do think a critique of someone’s art should have both positive and negative criticism to be useful.

I really hope others don’t get discourage posting their work on this forum after they have seen what’s happened to my post.

However, I suspect they may…

If you can’t take honest and valid criticism then don’t show your work in public. It’s as simple as that. The world doesn’t owe you anything, and if you want to be treated with more respect, then treat your work with more respect before you show it to everyone.
What did you want for this, a pat on the back, and a ‘well done sonny’ like you might say to your kid if they’d just brought a fingerpainting home from kindergarten?.
As for myself, I’d rather be honestly insulted than patronised in that fashion.
I can tell instantly when looking at someone’s work whether they’ve put enough effort into it or not, considering the plethora of video tutorials about character sculpting, both free and commercial, that exists these days (you can obviously afford them if you can afford to go off swaggering it around Japan) and I hate to see this sort of laziness and a complete unwillingness to learn from all the material that’s available to you.

If you can’t post constructive criticism don’t bother.  Your words have nothing to do with helping anyone but yourself.  You are a shameless self-promoter looking for as much personal exposure as you can get.

BTW everyone, did you know that Rod won’t give out free constructive criticism, but sells DVDs telling you how to sculpt?! Act now and receive a free snide remark with every purchase..

To all of you rushing to this trolls defense, please think twice before encouraging his anti-social behavior. His words only discourage community sharing and communication.
