i wonder what “better integration” means other then what is already in mud.

or does it mean we just get the noob cube

Means most probably FBX import/export, possibly live FBX transfers - you save in Max/Maya and MB updates automatically and vice versa. automatic exporting of normal/disp maps would be very cool, but I suppose this is farther out.

Well there is this… with a few dandy images

http://www.vfxworld.com/?atype=articles&id=3532&page=2

Autodesk will introduce a new standalone version of Mudbox (above) this year, along with better integration with 3ds Max and Maya. Mudbox images courtesy of Jonas Thornqvist.

BD: And what about Mudbox 3D? There was a lot of concern when the Skymatter acquisition was announced last year about it remaining a standalone product.

MP: Although we can’t get into any details yet, we can say that, yes, it will be a standalone and that we are also looking at better integration with Max and Maya. What the Mudbox customer is looking for is to add texturing into the package. Not only to do with the shape but also the color. So we have a good history for these things with our customers, and there is a lot of hardware acceleration that is going on as well. And Andrew Camenisch, Dave Cardwell and Tibor Madjar are in Toronto now and are working on the next version of Mudbox, and we’re starting to see with them how we can help them impact more products.

I never heard of Jonas Thornqvist until now:

I wonder if those textures were made in Mudbox 2.0? :O

Amazing work, very inspiring!

A better standard material for sculpting would be nice. The red wax material from zBrush shows cavities much better than mudbox does.

I would also love to see true vector dosplacement map output. That would open new doors to artists like

1. animating low res meshes and apply displacement maps

2. have new brush types that can paint whole objects onto any surface like ears and mushrooms and the like.

There has been a very interesting thread abou this in the XSI base forum.

Claytube is a nice brush. Clay build up is a another great one.

I’m a huge fan of the wax brush in mudbox though.

I hope Mudbox can extract vector displacement maps for multiple objects at once.
