3 part question, as I attempt to paint highlights into a human face model:

1) Why does painting with gloss or specular darken the diffuse layer? Can this be avoided?

2) Why, when I send the model to Maya, does the gloss and spec disappear, and the entire model in Maya becomes shiny instead of just the places I painted?

3) When do people use gloss vs. specular? I watched a tutorial that recommended sticking only to gloss to add skin highlights, unless you want to break up an area of uniform specularity, then use spec with black paint to diminish it in places. Opinions on this?

Thanks!
