Hey guys,

I can’t seem to locate the Material and Lighting Presets.  Am I missing something?

They should be in the lower right hand trays of the GUI.

The trays you should see on the lower right should be:

Stamp | Stencil| Material Presets | Lighting Presets | Camera Bookmarks

You do not see this? Are you using Mudbox 2009?

Hey Dave,

I’m using the demo that was released today.  The tabs are there but they are blank.  Nothing there.

Take a look bro.

I’m having the same problem.  They were there the first time I ran the demo, and now they are blank.  The files exist in both the normal mudbox install folder, as well as the folder I specified to save settings in.  The settings allow you to point towards folders for other things like stencils, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to point to a folder for materials or lights.

Same problem here. Loaded up first time, now they are gone on the second try.

Hey guys,

I uninstalled MB and tried a fresh install onto another drive, same results.  Any ideas??

Question A:
The Material and Lighting trays store data by default in .....My Documents/Mudbox/2009/data. Are you 100% sure you have permissions to read from this directory on your machine? Stamps and Stencils are stored in another location.

Question B:
I’m also curious what happens when you enter the material tray,

-Click the arrow option button to the left of that tray

-Select Add material preset

-Is a new material icon created?

-If so ,close Mudbox

-Then reopen Mudbox can you still see the material preset you created in the tray?

**Most Important! Please log a bug from the menu Help>Report a Problem link so we can track your issue.

Hey Dave,

Question A:  I do have admin privs, no sweat

Question B: I followed your directions and yes, a new material icon is created.

After I close MB and reopen it, the material preset is still there.  I can also do the same process with the lighting presets.

I have logged a bug report for Autodesk and the dev team.

Also, after viewing the hardware specs, it seems that the Quadro FX 4600 and Quadro FX 5600 cards seem to be the ideal choice for MB 2009 at this point.  Which card are you running in the demos?

Thanks for the replies and advice in advance.

John

We have a solution.  After countless emails with Dave and Andrew, the issue has been solved.  The solution is this:

It seems to be an installation bug, still has to be confirmed by the developers though.

Here’s the solution from Andrew after some problem solving sessions.

1. Move the “Materials” and “Lights” directories

From here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Mudbox\2009-x64\presets

To here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Mudbox\2009-x64\data\presets\

2. Then delete the Trays directory here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\Mudbox\2009-x64\settings\Trays

My sincerest thanks to Dave and Andrew for their timely responses and tireless efforts.  Kudos gentleman.

John

Same issue here…
Except it looks like there is already a “data” folder in there…
So Im not sure which one to move…

Im re-installing right now but doubtful that it will help…

Essentially I had them there for a second then walla!
They vanished?

Freshly Running vista 64...with a Quadro 3700…
