Hi! I’m having problems with the Mudbox 2012, because the objects that I created are black. I’ve tried to change the material and lighting, but no results.

If anyone can help with this issue I would be very grateful.

Ps: Here’s some information about my laptop.

Windows 7 Home Premium
Processor: Intel(R)Core(TM)i7-2620M CPU@ 2.70GHz 2.70 GHz
Installed memory (Ram): 8.00GB
System Type: 64 bit Operating System

What kind of videocard do you have? And do all objects always appear black, or just these specific objects?

Graphics Card Description: NVIDIA GeForce ® 310M graphics card with 512 MB
Graphics Card Ram Size: 512 MB
Graphics Card Interface: Integrated

And all objects that I create look black.

Your surface normals might be reversed.

How do I undo it?

If you have Maya, bring your object in there and under the polygons menu, choose normals>Reverse. Then export your object back to mudbox.

I had the same issue with my laptop and a GT425M until I download the driver 275.33, now the driver was for both quadro series and the mass market. The latest driver that gave me trouble at that time was 290.XXX or above would give the same issues as you described.
A recommendation, download and use a bit older version until the hit the right one. Perhaps start with the one I just provided. it solved everything in my case.

I tried to reproduce the issue without my above issue and solution. Make sure you have Mesh, Lighting checked on in Mudbox top menu bar “Display”.

Also check out if the base of your mesh is not set with dark or black diffuse and very low or quasi nonexistent fall off and a low lighting preset setting, bouncing light are extremely reduced up to provoking no depth and volume.
