Not sure what section I should be putting this in but I’ve been struggling with getting bleeding to work for a day now when sending an object with properly laid out UV’s directly from softimage using the send to mudbox feature.

If I take the same object, export to obj (haven’t tried other formats yet) and then import in mudbox the problem disappears and I get correct bleeding.

I’ve attached two screenshots to illustrate the issue.

I have some theories why this happens, but for now I still need to do a little more testing to see if I can get rid of it when using the “send to mudbox” feature.

Top image shows bleeding when using “send to mudbox”
Bottom image shows bleeding when exporting to .obj and importing that in mudbox.

Edit: seems the problem lies in the FBX format, tried exporting to FBX and importing manually in mudbox, problem persists. Tried with FBX 7.2, 7.1 and 6.1 - Which probably means the problem lies with how Softimage utilizes FBX for exports. Hope somebody can shed some light on it.

Are you saying that the edge bleed that Mudbox produces while painting is produced correctly on one object (the bottom one) and incorrectly on the other object (the top one), and the only difference between both objects is one came in as obj and the other came in as fbx?  If so, can you post both the obj and fbx, please?

Yes that is exactly what I am saying :)

I’ve used FBX 7.2 for the cylinder.fbx, but its the same with 7.1 and 6.2

That’s pretty interesting.  Would you be able to post the OBJ file that does work and the FBX file that doesn’t work, please?

The UVs are shattered in the fbx file; that is, the edges of adjacent UV faces are no longer sewn together.  Check with the Softimage forum to see how to export an FBX file without each face of hte mesh becoming a separate UV shell.
