You’ll need to export your map in 16bits, C4D doesn’t handle Mudbox’s 32 bits very well at the moment.

Hi,

what is the exact problem? Does the displacement map not show or has it any artefacts or anything else? Maybe you can post a screenshot or render of the “wrong” displacement map?!

By the way… I recommend using the “Riptide” Plugin for C4D for importing and exporting *.OBJ-Meshes. Otherwise your meshes may cause problems.

http://skinprops.com/riptide.php

Another thing: I usually have to set the subdivision level for the low resolution mesh in the Mudbox Baker to “Good” at least. Othwise my displacement maps get strange artefacts…

Hope I could help you. As mentioned above - if you post a “problem” displacement render I could give you some more hints.

regards,
Marco

Mmm… first you need to check “round geometry” if you want to avoid the facetting in C4D.
How are your UVs laid out? Seems something has gone very wrong here, especially when looking at your object in Mudbox.
What did you do to have it all stretched out like this?

Do you have triangles? overlapping UVs?

hey

marcotronic - ..thnks a lot for taking the trouble

i figured a few things out in the process .

1. c4d"s .obj exporter is not as good as it should >!

2. i forgot to mention tht i had downloaded the riptide plugin before u mentioned it , and the artifact / crazy stuff happening in the viewport was because of the scale . i overlooked it in the riptide export option dialog. i set it to 1 ( was 1000 ) n it seems to be fine now

3. i managed to get the disp map into c4d ...( yippeeee ) but seem to have lost sum of the details ...guess i’ll have to experiment.

thnks a lot
